    • Immigrant professionals, citizens of a non-French speaking country (in which French is not an official language)
    • Canadian professionals who attended a secondary school in Quebec before 1985-1986.
    • All members of professional orders must have an appropriate knowledge of French for their profession requirements. The article 35 of the Charte explains how to prove this knowledge.
    • In cases mentioned above, professional orders guide their candidates to appropriate department at the Office de la langue française where the exam takes place.

Once you contact the OQLF to register, you will receive a date through postal mail. You cannot choose the date yourself. Waiting time might be up to 5 weeks. That is the reason why we recommend that you contact us before receiving your date for the examination.

    • This exam has been designed to equal the level 8 of the MICC language assessment scale. A group of French speaking professionals in Quebec have approved it. It has also been validated by the different professional orders.
    • There are some differences according to the candidate’s education level. Candidates graduated with a Master or a Doctorate should expect a higher required level for writing and interview parts. The comprehension parts, oral and written, remain of a same level for all candidates.
    • The minimum passing score is 60% in each of the 4 parts. No reference or notes are authorized during the exam.

    • Oral Comprehension This part of the exam consists in 40 multiple choices questions.
    • Reading Comprehension This part of the exam consists in 20 multiple choices questions about 2 or 3 texts on topics related to the candidate’s profession. All answers are to be found in the given texts.
    • Interview This part aims to assess the candidate’s ability to converse about topics related to his/her profession.
    • Writing This part aims to assess the candidate’s ability to write about topics related to his/her professional activities, following given instructions and in accordance with the rules of the French language.

    • The candidate who failed must write again only the part of the exams with a score below 60%. All parts passed with a score of 60% or more are permanently gained.
    • In case of a doubt about the assessment, it is possible to ask for a revision. Then, the assessment is redone by another assessor.
    • You can try the exam as many times as necessary with a 3-month period in between. It is important to pay attention to your weaknesses before trying again the exam since several failures are negative for self-esteem and self- confidence
